Ideally, to get the most enjoyment out of the new stories you'll need to have read the original pulp book, since the significance of some points and characters depends on previous acquaintance with the fictional world of Sam Wimbush. However, that's not absolutely neccessary and you should still be able to enjoy what's on offer, and I hope these new stories bring a smile.
